Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade
The stats of an item can be enhanced by upgrading it, also referred to as "upping". Each upgrade increment increases the stats linearly.
Players can recycle up to six items at once to gain an ability to gauge the level of each of the item's upgraded components. The cost of recycling items increases with their rarity and item level.
Upgrade components
In Guild Wars 2, an item upgrade is a way to increase the stats of your weapon and armor. This can be done through many different methods such as using upgrade components and upgrading an item's mark level or rarity. Many items can also be reforged to boost their stats.
Upgradeable items can be found all over the game, both around the world and as rewards for missions. Players can also make them. Upgrade components are the primary way to upgrade equipment. These are items that can be inserted into equipment. The majority of equipment comes with slots to upgrade, and many require a specific level of upgrade. Certain upgrade components offer specific bonuses, while others offer an overall bonus.
There are many types of upgrade elements available in the game. These include universal upgrades, inscriptions and jewels. Universal upgrades, like gemstones and enchantments, can be put on any type of equipment, and offer less than equipment-specific upgrades. Glyphs are only available on gathering tools. They provide a variety bonuses, ranging from increasing the speed of an item's gathering to providing extra crafting material.
Choose the item from your inventory, then open the Upgrade window. The preview will be displayed on the right hand side of the screen. It will show the expected stats following the upgrade. If you do not have enough of either, the Upgrade button will show as Blocked.
The number of upgrade components needed for a particular item is displayed in the upper-right corner of the window for upgrading. The cost of upgrading increases with the upgrade level and rarity, but can be reduced using various ways, such as purchasing upgrades from a retailer or trading them with other players.
The majority of weapons can be upgraded by adding a prefix, such as a rune or an insignia. Other weapons can be improved by adding an suffix. These upgrades change the name of the item and add an adjective, like "Radiant" or "Minor Vigor. The only exceptions are the non-inscribable weapons, such as foci and shields from the Prophecies and Factions campaigns, that cannot be upgraded using any kinds of mods.
Glyphs
Glyphs can be used to convey visual information. They move to catch the attention of the viewer and stimulate interest in the brain. The animation of glyphs resembles the body language, making them more effective in transmitting the message of a language barrier. Glyphs can also enhance the retention of messages by creating an experience of familiarity in the brain.
Each glyph can increase a stat's value by a specific amount. This is shown on the item's page when you open it in the Glyph Storage. This range is the maximum value that a glyph could enhance a stat by and not the amount it will actually increase the stat by. The value of the glyph will depend on the tier and the quality of the item that you are enchanting.
The majority of upgrade components that are slotted into items can't be repaired or replaced without dismantling the equipment in question, with the exception of legendary equipment and upgrades. If you have a glyph or rune you don't want to use, but it's not been applied to the gear yet, you can move the item to a different piece by using the Upgrade Glyphs menu within the Glyphs Panel. This will create a Glyph Set that includes the chosen glyph.
If you want to remove a glyph from an item, you will need to salvage it using an Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. This will cause the item to be destroyed within which it is placed, but you can recover the upgraded item using the glyph and its fragments, so this should not be considered a loss.
When you take away an item after putting a glyph on it, the shards from that glyph will disappear. You can also place an inscription on your equipment to make it more valuable. For instance the glyph Deferred Damage can store damage for the wearer and then deal it out slowly instead of all at one time. This is useful for players who take many hits from enemies but don't want to be overwhelmed.
Reroll tokens
Reroll tokens are used to change the affixes on weapons and equipment. They can be obtained from many sources, including mysterious boxes, rare drops from skulled monsters, or by killing bosses. Each reroll token gives the player a new random affix that is usually better than the original one. Reroll tokens can also be used to upgrade weapon stats for more damage or bonuses.
Items that have been rerolled may not appear in the upgrade menu, however, they still qualify to receive upgrades. By pressing the "upgrade button", you can recycle these items that have been rerolled. This will alter the design of the item's window and let up to six items be selected for recycling. Recycling an item adds a small amount of points to its level gauge. The amount is by the rarity of the item and also its level. Therefore, items that are higher level are more valuable to recycle than items with lower levels.
Players can also use Reroll Tokens and Star Remnants to reroll Weapon Traits to upgrade units. Rerolls roll a percentage chance for a weapon's trait. If it rolls higher, the weapon is upgraded. If it rolls lower the weapon remains as is. Weapons can be repeated up to three times.
Rerolling is a great way to upgrade an item. However, players must be aware that the total ilvl is reduced by the number that it took to reroll it to the final ilvl. This reduction effect is most effective for ring items and Diadems, which have no competing ilvl-raising options.
Players have complained that the reroll system is expensive. It would be fairer to let people pay for it using money or food items, which allows players to make adjustments to their builds without spending too much time. The developers aren't planning to implement paid rerolls at this point in the game's development. They plan to add an ingredient that allows players to alter their race in the near future.
Leveling
There are several ways to upgrade an item. The first method of leveling up an item upgrade is by increasing the upgrade amount. This increases the upgrade value for a stat. The second option is to increase the effect of an upgrade, which can increase the healing or damage for a stat. The base item can be upgraded to an advanced upgrade type. When this is done the new item will maintain its iLevel however it will be upgraded with the effects of the upgraded item type.
When you upgrade items it is essential to remember that upgrades aren't always planned. In the majority of cases, a better roll will be derived from glyphs, but there are also chances for greater or special rolls. The type of item will determine the iLevel. If you upgrade a unique or rare item to a unique item type, then it is likely to receiving an additional level.
Upgrades can be costly, especially if you are upgrading gear from the standard track to legendary. The cost will depend on the item's base iLevel and the number of upgrade levels it has. Certain upgrade tracks require crests in order to get to the next level.
If you're lucky your upgraded item will reach the highest level on its upgrade track, and will unlock a bonus effect. This will increase the item's upgrade value. The bonus effect can change with each upgrade level however. In general, the effect of upgrading is increased by +3.
The iLevel also changes according to the upgrade path and its base level. For instance the weapon that has been upgraded from a rare or exclusive item to an exceptional item will have a chance to gain the enhanced defense of the new base item type.
